Each mat has over hundreds of little small plastic disks covered in sharp spikes - feel each spike individually and it is incredibly sharp, but put them all together and combine it with the pressure of your body and miraculously it works. It can still feel a little prickly so I recommend wearing a t-shirt and be careful to keep the mat away from unsupervised children. However, the kids will get a kick out of the mat and mine really enjoyed feeling the spikes and were amazed that they could carefully lay down on the Yantra Mat without it hurting given my guidance.
