This President's Love Letter Will Inspire You to Live a "Valentine's Life"

"February 14 may be the day that they observe and call Valentine's Day. But that is for people of only ordinary luck. I happen to have a Valentine's life which started on March 4, 1952, and will continue as long as I have you."  This was in a love letter that Ronald Reagan wrote to his wife Nancy on Valentine’s Day 1960.

The month of February-there is Valentine’s Day and Presidents Day, so what better way to recognize it than a Valentine’s quote from a President.  This quote either fills you with love and tears or makes you want to puke, depending on what mood you are in and your outlook on love at this moment.   I hope it is the former.

I never really take Valentine’s Day too seriously.   Not that I don’t like flowers, candy, love notes, etc. but I didn’t really need it on a specific day or like the feeling that we're forced to go out because it was February 14th.   But I do think it’s important to celebrate love and be appreciated, however you choose to express it.

So a Valentine’s life,  what an interesting concept.  May we all be so lucky in love as to have a Valentine’s life.  But how do we have one of those and what would that be for you?

To me a Valentine’s life would be not forgetting what true love is, no matter what life throws your way.  Which I think is hard in most relationships, real life takes over - responsibilities, ego, stress, children, whatever.  While I don’t think it’s realistic to have a Valentine’s life everyday, isn’t it what we should strive for? Or maybe a Valentine’s life is realizing things aren’t always perfect, but that true love is what matters and you make it work together.

So while Reagan’s quote may seem a bit too sentimental to some, in an age where relationships come and go, many marriages end in divorce, and the headlines are filled with celebrity break-ups, I think Reagan’s love letter is a romantic reminder of what being in love means and to celebrate it.  So here’s to wishing you a Happy Valentine’s Life!
