Rockin' Red For Heart Health (And Love)

Everywhere you look this month you'll likely see something red.  Red in honor of love because February is, of course, the month in which we celebrate Valentine's Day.  But did you know there is another awesome reason to sport red this month?  February is also Heart Month - the month where we wear red to raise awareness about heart disease - the #1 killer of women.

That's a staggering statistic, isn't it?  As women, we tend to rally well around causes, and this one should be one that is nearest and dearest to all of us - frankly because it is the thing that, statistically, we are most likely to face in our lifetimes.

Of course, being that I'm a bit of a fashionista, I like any cause that allows me to raise awareness through fashion.  The simplest way to do that is just to wear something red several times this month!  Here are a few great ideas for rockin' the color red this month - and I've offered you a save and a splurge option - so feel free to pick your poison!

The Little Red Dress (The LRD)

Splurge - Royal Engagement Silk Jersey Dress by Issa ($555)

Save - ASOS Dress with Embellished Neck ($44.76)

Think of it as the little black dress, but hotter.  They say the color red makes people hungry and I'm pretty sure it makes men just as eager to devor you.  There's just something about a "lady in red" that sets a man on fire - take advantage of it!  (By the way, the "splurge" option is the same dress that Duchess Kate wore for her engagement announcement, reworked in Poppy Red for this season!)

A Red Scarf

Splurge - Salvatore Ferragamo Patterened Satin and Chiffon Scarf - $108

Save - Nordstrom Suit Stripe Silk Muffler - $19.90

Think of it like a good pair of shoelaces - a great scarf can tie almost any outfit together.  A red scarf adds a pop of color to an otherwise ho-hum outfit.  My personal favorite way to wear a red scarf is with my favorite pair of black flats, cropped jeans, and a turquoise top. Yes, red and turquoise make beautiful music together!

Red Denim

Splurge - The Looker Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans by Mother  ($339)

Save - Red Charlie Capri Jeans by Lucky Brand  ($99)

Colored denim is the bomb dot com right now - so don't shy away from this great look.  My favorite way to wear my red denim (and by the way, I own the pair that you see here from Lucky Brand and love them) is with a black tank and a fitted black blazer.  I finish the entire look with my Kardashian collection black pumps for a business meeting, or my sparkly black Toms to pick the kids up from school.  Either look is smokin' hot!

So tell me - how will you wear red for heart month?
