By Laura Sussely-Pope

Are you ready for some football? Are you having a Super Bowl party? If so, we all know that libations are usually a part of the party atmosphere. And of course pregnant women should not drink any alcohol but rather than feeling left out of the festivities, we have found some truly exciting and even nutritious recipes for “mocktails” that will have those who are able to drink alcohol turning away from the beer, wine and spirits and asking for one of these:

  1. Bloody Mary: These are good during brunch, especially since you will be leaving out the vodka. As for being good for you, this one contains tomato juice and celery! Here is what you need:

  • A dash of lemon juice
  • 4 oz. of tomato juice (traditionally 1 oz would be vodka)
  • 3-4 ice cubes
  • Salt and pepper
  • A dash of Worcestershire sauce
  • A dash of Tabasco sauce

How to make it:

  • In a cocktail shaker, add lemon juice, tomato juice and ice cubes.
  • Add Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce and a dash of salt and pepper
  • Close the shaker and mix well
  • Pour into a large glass and serve
  • Garnish with a small stalk of celery

  1. Pina Colada: A nice exotic and easy to make “momtail.” Nutritional ingredients? Pineapple juice, milk, and coconut extract!

Here is what you will need:

  • 2 cups of milk
  • 2 cups of pineapple juice
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of coconut extract
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • Ice cubes

How to make it:

  • Combine all the ingredients, except the ice, in a blender
  • Blend until a froth forms, then pour into tall glasses filled with ice
  • Decorate with those cute little umbrellas or garnish with a mint sprig or orange slice

  1. Chocolate Cocktail: Yum! As if we need an excuse to indulge in chocolate – we think a Super Bowl party is a perfect reason! Besides, did you know chocolate is actually good for you? And of course, this recipe contains milk so there you go!

Here is what you need:

  • 150g milk chocolate bar
  • 210 ml (just over 7 oz) of milk
  • 2 ¼ oz of vanilla syrup
  • 3 squares of milk chocolate
  • Ice
  • 3 martini glasses

How to make it:

  • Place the milk in a non-stick saucepan and gently simmer
  • Break half of the chocolate bar into squares and add into the milk. Stir gently and continuously to create a liquid chocolate mixture
  • Allow to cool for one hour at room temperature and then store in the fridge
  • Pour the cool mixture into a cocktail share and add the vanilla syrup
  • Shake over ice for 1 min. and double-strain into martini glasses
  • Make an insertion in the back of the chocolate squares and place at an angle on the edge of each martini glass

  1. Cranberry Cutie: Perhaps the easiest and most nutritious “MomTail” on our list is this one. It contains cranberry juice, apple juice and honey. And it is deliciously refreshing!

Here is what you need:

  • 3 oz. of cranberry juice
  • 3 oz. of apple juice
  • 1 oz. of honey
  • Ice
  • Maraschino cherry for garnish

How to make it:

  • Fill a glass with ice cubes
  • Mix the juices and honey in another glass and stir with a long spoon
  • Pour the contents of the mixing glass into the ice glass
  • Decorate with a maraschino cherry

  1. Margarita: No “MomTail” list would be complete without a recipe for a virgin Margarita! As for nutritional value, this contains orange juice and limeade concentrate so that’s not too shabby!

Here is what you need:

  • 2 tablespoons of kosher salt
  • 1/2 lime, cut into 4 wedges
  • 1 can (6 oz. size) of frozen limeade concentrate, thawed
  • 1/4 cup of orange juice
  • 4 cups of ice cubes

How to make it:

  • Place the salt in a shallow dish
  • Rub the rim of the margarita glasses with a lime wedge and dip the rims into the salt
  • Set the lime wedges aside
  • In a blender, blend the limeade, orange juice, and ice cubes on high speed for 1 to 2 minutes, or until well blended and the ice cubes are crushed
  • Pour evenly into the glasses and garnish with the lime wedges

Try out one or all five of these tasty and delicious recipes! They’ll help to get you in a party mood whether you’re enjoying the Super Bowl or any other event. We suspect that once you enjoy these, you may remain a “virgin” even after you have the green light to drink alcohol again!
