Mom's Review: "The Devil's Teardrop" on LMN Sunday, August 8

"The Devil's Teardrop" is a new Lifetime Movie Network original movie (airs August 8 at 8pm et / 5pm pt) based on the best-selling author Jeffery Deaver's mystery novel of the same name.  The premise of the movie is to show the true struggle between a man's passions and his family.  Tom Everett Scott plays Parker Kincaid, a retired FBI agent and handwriting specialist.  Kincaid leaves the FBI after an ugly divorce that lands him full custody of his children when their mother battles substance abuse and walks away.  A past tragic event involving the FBI and Kincaid proves the safest place for him to be is home with his children and out of harms way.

When a deranged serial killer is on the loose in Washington, D.C., Special Agent Margaret Lukas, played by Natasha Henstridge, calls in help from Kincaid to solve the case and stop the killer in his tracks.  Kincaid is now faced with the decision to follow what he knows best and try to help save the city or turn his back on the FBI to ensure the safety of himself and his children.  All taking place at the time Kincaid's ex-wife Joan, played by Rena Sofer, comes back into his life to collect her children after getting sober.  Without giving Joan reason to win in court, Kincaid helps to catch a brutal killer while fighting for what's most dear to him - the custody of his children.

I truly enjoyed watching the plot play out in this thriller.  A true life scenario of how a man's passions in life can change quickly for the sake of family.  Watching Kincaid battle the tug between trying to decide what's right, displayed real conflict with his own morals.  Morals that drove him to keep his children safe and not give Joan ammo to take them away to an environment that is not in their best interest, were the same morals that drove him to partner back up with the FBI to save innocent victims from being put to death by a violent serial killer.  Sacrificing his career, which he is truly passionate about, to be home and cherish the days with his children is something many amazing parents are faced with in life.  "The Devil's Teardrop" showed true judge of character.  As an adult matures, decides on their life goal, works through college and lands on the life path of their choice all seems right in the world.  When becoming a parent, life can sometimes take you down a separate unknown path that was not expected.  It was interesting to see Kincaid faced with a crossroad and how he was able to juggle the fine line without losing himself or what was most important to him in the process.
