Is the iPhone Mom Replacing the Soccer Mom?

Is the iPhone Mom Replacing the Soccer Mom?

Topicsiphone, iPhone apps

First I have to admit I never liked the term "soccer mom." Advertisers always like to find a name for moms and the female demographic. Why isn’t there a "soccer dad" or "iPhone Dad" market – don’t they shop also? Apparently, not as much as women.

According to a study by BCG Global, women control over 70 percent of household purchases. In addition, another study by Greystripe states that moms currently make up 29 percent of all iPhone users. So what does that tell you if you are in the iPhone development market? Make an application that meets the needs of both moms and females.

Here are some apps that I would like to see on the market soon.

  • Medicine Tracker – Mom’s get no sleep when there is a sick kid in the house, so at 2:00 am it’s really hard to remember when the last medicine dose was given.
  • Digital Mom Agenda – I love the MomAgenda calendars, they are organized with mom’s busy day in mind and best of all they have those great motivational quotes at the top. I would love to see them create an app for the MomAgenda.
  • Dosage Calculator – This would be a great addition to the medicine tracker - a calculator that can verify the proper dosage for the most common medications by age and weight.
  • Park Finder – They have a zillion restaurant finders in iTunes – why not create one for parks or kid-friendly places according to your zip code. Highlighting 24-hour daycares for those special emergencies would also be nice.
  • Power Mom Calendar/Agenda – Because I’m a mom, business owner and employee, it’s hard to find a calendar to accommodate all of my needs. I would love a way to be able to schedule EVERYTHING into one calendar that makes sense.
  • Mommy Time Out Alarm – This should be automatically built into every iPhone owned by a mother. A gentle or LOUD if necessary reminder that she needs to schedule some "Me" time.
  • To-Do Lists – My "to do" list is longer than the Golden Gate Bridge and it’s mixed with household stuff, work stuff, business stuff and kids stuff. I would love a "to-do" app that can easily organize your "to-do's" by importance and that can send you a reminder of the top 5 on the list every morning.
  • Personal Shopping – An application that can link to your favorite places to shop, notifying you of sales and discounts or when new items come in. If you like the item you can purchase straight from the application and it will be waiting on your doorstep in a few days.
  • Goal Tracker/Chart – A way to track your goals and milestones that rewards you with more Mommy Time Out minutes – again this will have to work concurrently with the Mommy Time Out Alarm.
  • Money Manager/ Budget – A tool that lets you manage the money going in and going out in real time. For example, when you are at the register the iPhone automatically deducts what was charged to the account in real time. No waiting. No manual inputs.

EXTRA BONUS APP – The Sleeper – If someone would please create an app that will put my kids to bed exactly at bedtime and keep them asleep throughout the night, I would be so grateful.

Do you have an iPhone? If you know of any apps that already do the above, let us know. What kinds of apps would you like to see?
