Sitting down to read a book that doesn’t start with “I am Sam” or “Left foot, right foot” is nearly an impossible task, heck sitting down for a little “me” time IS impossible in my house. But I managed to squeeze in a few minutes (in the bathroom) hiding so I could read The BlackBerry Diaries: Adventures in Modern Motherhood by Kathy Buckworth.

In the BlackBerry Diaries, Kathy compares owning a Blackberry Smart Phone to adding another child to the family. “If they’re quiet, you’re constantly checking on them to make sure everything is okay. If they’re loud and interrupting, you just want them to shut up and go away. When they do, the cycle starts all over again.”

Okay I know I’m not the only one that can relate. When I finally get my kids to settle down and play in their room quietly, why am I the first one to check and see if they are okay, thereby stirring up the noise all over again? It’s the same with my Smart Phone, when it doesn’t ring or beep at me, I assume it must be broken, but when it’s ringing off the hook, I want it to go away. I just know I can’t be the only one.

As Kathy suggests, the Blackberry or any Smart Phone is an addition to the family and once it enters the home it can never be replaced or returned. You can’t return your kid to the hospital and you will never want to return a Blackberry once your fingers have grazed the keyboard.

I won’t even mention how many times I’ve stopped writing just to check my own Smart Phone. I love the BlackBerry Diaries because it focuses on moms with Smart Phones instead of a general smart phone geek. I remember there was a time when I refused to own a BlackBerry or any smart phone. I thought that Blackberries were just for BUSY people that weren’t decent enough to sit through an uninterrupted dinner.

If you are a blackberry-obsessed mom, like me, then The Black Diaries is the book for you. Now available in bookstores.

The BlackBerry Diaries: Adventures in Modern Motherhood is a no-holds-barred trip through the wacky world of toddlers and technology. Definitely worth the read and a great way to spend some “me” time.
