You know what I really enjoy? I really enjoy casually dropping in conversation with someone that I will be covering Fashion Week in NYC for Lifetime Moms. Oh! See how I just did that? Crazy, right? Because what I really meant to say was: I AM COVERING FASHION WEEK IN NEW YORK CITY FOR LIFETIME MOMS! Of course, I generally follow that up with something like "squeeeeeee!!!!".
Honestly, I'm every mom. I am just the same old Erika I've always been - a french teacher, turned stay-at-home-mom, turned blogger who now finds herself flying out to New York to cover Fashion Week. So, am I excited? Well, that is probably the understatement of the year. I'm most excited, however, because I am going to Fashion Week for YOU. You can check back here all week for up to the moment Fashion Week coverage by Audrey and I. You can follow along on our journey, see the shows we see, and get the backstage scoop. We'll be blogging, vlogging, and taking pictures like crazy, so I really hope you'll vist us here again and join us on our wild ride through the craziness that is Fashion Week. (Ok, not TOO wild. I go to bed early.) Our coverage will be up-front, honest, and practical. Plus, I'm sure we'll keep a running count of how many times I trip, stumble, or do something else clumsy. That should be fun.
So, I know what you are thinking. What am I wearing? The very thought of attempting to acheive the perfect look not one, not two, not three, but FIVE different days has got my stomach in knots. So, apart from the fact that I am dragging two entire suitcases to NYC with me and then doing one giant fashion show for Audrey to get a second opinion, here is what I've settled on.
Black. I'm bringing lots of black. A Calvin Klein one-shouldered dress for evening, a simple Maggie London sheath dress for day, and a BCBG dress with sheer fluttery sleeves for a time when nothing else will work. My thought process is that no matter how hard I try, I will not be the best dressed person there. Someone will stand out in some breathtaking frock, and I am sure they will have paid dearly to do so. The good news is that I'm almost positive I will not be the worst-dressed person there either. If I can manage to not stand out, but blend in nicely and look classy while doing it, well then, I'm happy.
Fantastic Shoes. Since 3 of my outfits are very simple, black dresses, I figured I would let my shoes do the talking. Pink snakeskin pumps, adorable brown satin heels with dainty little bows, and silver stilettos that would stop traffic are all already carefully tucked into my suitcase.
Rockin' Accessories. I picked up a large silver cuff bracelet and a chunky silver necklace to dress up my look. As I type this, I've had a sudden stroke of panic when I realized that I don't have a clutch or bag to go with my outfits. I'll have to fix that right away.
The Perfect Dress. As the last hoorah during our Fashion Week coverage, we are attending the Project Runway party in NYC. I've chosen a BCBG maxi dress with a sweetheart neckline and lace accents as my ensemble for the evening. You can see the picture below, but it truly doesn't do it justice.
