Tory Burch has a bit of a cult following, especially among accessory junkies like myself. Her signature logo can be seen on anything from shoes, to handbags, to wallets and jewelry. Today I was fortunate to be able to attend her Spring 2010 Presentation - a first for her in the tents at Bryant Park - as in the past she has opted for smaller shows. Her show was unique in that it was not a show at all, it was, quite literally, an hour-long presentaion of the line - with the models grouped randomly up and down the runway. People in attendance were allowed to mill about and walk right up to the models, giving everyone a "front row" seat. I loved this, as several of the models noticed me taking photographs and filming and put their heads together or posed for me. The models moved to the music, chatted, and just generally played up their looks for the cameras.
I was a little taken aback by this presentation at first, because I thought I would prefer a traditional runway show. In a sense I do, but this was nice because I could take my time, approach the models, get the photographs at the angles I wanted, and take notes on the clothing. As usual, Burch did not disappoint with an extensive collection of shoes and accessories - including tie-dyed bags and clutches with long gold chains. I was most surprised by a leather skirt with gold studded trim at the top and bottom - something I wasn't expecting to see in a "spring" line. I fell in love with a pair of navy blue scalloped-edge shorts that were delicate and feminine but practical (read: I can dress them up with heels and a sexy top or do laundry and chase my 2 year old in them). To me, the most stiking thing about Tory Burch's Spring Collection was her ability to mix glam with everyday. It creates an eclectic look that really allows for lots of room for individual expression.
