The 2010 Clean Start Challenge: Setting Goals and Multi-tasking
The Clean Start Challenge has been going on strong, have you been following along by watching the videos and participating in the chats? Koletta has already created her sanctuary and even started thinking about what products she would like to sell online. Now she is focusing on multi-tasking. She must establish her business and work through all the legal paperwork, all of which can be overwhelming when you are trying to raise a family and work a full-time job.
I’ve been juggling my business, family, and job for several years now so I can understand the challenge.
The one thing that every multi-tasking mom should learn is to know when to DELEGATE. It’s impossible to do it all, so ask for help from your spouse and children. Older children can clean up their rooms, wash dishes, and pitch in with other tasks around the house. Have your spouse take the kids out for a few hours so you can get some work done.
Another important thing to remember is to write down a list of goals for the week, focusing on two or three tasks per day. You will want to keep your list manageable so you will not get discouraged if you don’t complete all the tasks of the week.
For me, setting a bed time for my two kids has been a huge help. Our focus is on the children from the moment we get home until bedtime, which allows us to squeeze in some quality time with the kids. We eat dinner together and read books during bedtime. After the kids go to sleep I have time to get some work done.
Because I have a limited amount of time, I need to complete the most important tasks first which is always processing orders. Next I will review my to-do list and try to complete one task before going to bed.
I also use Google calendar to schedule any important meetings and deadlines, and request alerts to be sent to my phone so I can’t forget them.
Owning a business while juggling a job can be challenging, but if you are passionate about your dream and love what you are doing, you are sure to succeed. Setting milestones and goals is important to keep you motivated. Having a loving support system cheering you on is also helpful – make sure your family understands why you are doing this and get them involved where you can.
There are also many resources available to you, join networking groups, attend entrepreneurial events and even check out some of the great books available.
